Architecture played a huge role in Roman history. A lot of early Roman architecture created bridges and roads, which increased communication in early Rome. Also, some architectural masterpeices helped get water to the cities such as the aqueducts. THe basilica played a big role in the politics of Rome. FOr example, this structre served as either the town hall or a courthouse.






Many ampitheaters were created in early Rome to serve as Arenas for such things as Gladiator fights, and entertainment.














Many arches made during early Rome were symbols of military power and their great advances.


Temples were especially important to many Roman emperors. These temples represent both politics and religion. The building of a temple by an emperor was a testament of his dedication to the traditional customs of Rome.


The tradition of Roman architecture has had an important influence on American architecture. For example, many courthouses throughout America can be seen to be based on Roman architecture. A particularly striking example is the U.S. Supreme Court building in Washingon.
